“Stella, finiscila di far sentire in colpa chi indossa la pelle!”
Una sfida, un invito: Cotance, l’associazione europea della pelle, chiede un confronto pubblico con Stella McCartney. Per spiegarle, per illustrarle una volta per tutte le buone ragioni dell’industria conciaria. Per interrompere il circuito comunicativo vizioso che vuole spingere non solo chi produce, ma anche chi indossa la pelle a sentirsi in colpa. La stilista, come vi abbiamo già raccontato, ha approfittato della cornice del vertice COP26 di Glasgow per chiedere alla moda e al design di bandire l’uso della pelle. In nome della sostenibilità, a suo dire, ha lanciato una raccolta firme. Tutte fandonie. Nella sua lettera aperta Manuel Ríos, titolare della conceria spagnola Inpelsa e presidente Cotance (nella foto, a sinistra), spiega perché.
La insostenibile battaglia di Stella
“Capiamo che ci possa essere chi, come te, per ragioni filosofiche non vuole consumare o utilizzare prodotti animali. Lo rispettiamo – scrive Ríos –. Ma promuovere questo credo su scala globale non ha senso: va contro la logica dell’economia circolare”. La pelle è un sottoprodotto dell’industria alimentare, ricorda il presidente di Cotance, che la concia sottopone a un circolare processo di nobilitazione. L’unica alternativa è la discarica, o l’inceneritore. “Non c’è mucca, pecora o capra macellata per la sua pelle – tuona Ríos –. Finché le persone su questo pianeta mangeranno carne, ci saranno pelli grezze. Che o impiegheremo in conceria, o butteremo in discarica”.
Basta sensi di colpa
Agitare l’idea, come fa Stella McCartney, che smettere di usare la pelle (e la pelliccia) sia una soluzione green è sbagliato. Alla stilista ha già risposto UNIC – Concerie Italiane. L’unico risultato sarebbe sabotare un’industria circolare, rendere necessario il maggiore utilizzo di materiali sintetici e aumentare, infine, i volumi di rifiuti da smaltire. McCartney deve essere consapevole che “abolire l’uso della pelle può solo generare inquinamento”, ammonisce Ríos. Così come chi indossa la pelle dovrebbe essere libero di farlo “senza sensi di colpa” indotti da altri. Per questo il presidente di Cotance invita Stella McCartney “a discutere di questi argomenti nelle condizioni a lei più gradite”. Tutto, a patto che la smetta “di calunniare un’industria umile, ma legittima – conclude – che rende un servizio circolare alla società, produce bellezza duratura da uno scarto e che si sforza per l’eccellenza sociale e ambientale”.
